Resume and CV Photo Guidelines by Region
Resume photo norms are regional. In some markets a photo is expected; in others it invites bias and is better omitted. Get the rule of your target country right first — then make the image itself quietly excellent.
Where photos are expected
Many roles in Germany, France, parts of Latin America, the Middle East, and much of Asia still expect a photo on a CV. Creative portfolios worldwide often include one even when the résumé itself does not. When in doubt, mirror recent local examples from your industry rather than US tech Twitter advice.
Where to skip the photo
In the United States, Canada, and UK corporate applications, photos on résumés are usually discouraged outside acting or modeling. Put your effort into LinkedIn instead. Do not force a headshot into an ATS template that will mangle the layout.
Size and framing for documents
Keep a square or slight portrait crop that still works at 2–3 cm wide on paper. Soft smile, calm backdrop, business-appropriate wardrobe. Avoid full-body shots and busy scenes. Export high resolution so print stays sharp.
Generate once, reuse carefully
